Summary

  • Performs pre-op physical assessment according to protocol. Checks chart for completion of consent, history and physical, and reports of ordered diagnostic studies.
  • Takes nursing history about the reason for hospitalization, allergies, physical limitations/special considerations influencing positioning and care during surgery.
  • Communicate with appropriate O.R. nurses and anesthesiologists regarding information gathered from patient interviews.
  • Assesses patient’s condition:  vital signs, patency of the airway, level of consciousness, condition of the wound, dressing, patency of IV and condition of site, patency of drains and tubes, level of block in regional anesthesia.
  • Takes vital signs every 15 minutes or more often as indicated by patients’ condition.  Medicates for pain as indicated, as ordered by an anesthesiologist or surgeon.
  • Checks surgeon’s postoperative orders and implements those requiring immediate action.
  • Communicate with the family regarding the patient’s status.
  • Notifies nursing unit personnel prior to transfer from PACU.
  • Ensures compliance with all established hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage.
  • Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management. Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices.
  • Administers all medications using correct medication, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique. Displays appropriate technical skills for the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other medications, to include, but not limited to injections (SQ, IM, ID), venipuncture, central line access and infusion devices.

Requirements:

  • Operate computer terminals, printers, and phone systems.
  • Assist with training new employees as needed.
  • Manage stressful and emergency situations with a calm, rational demeanour.
  • Demonstrate the ability to set priorities and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Actively works to promote and maintain an organizational culture that enhances our standing as the best place to work and receive care.

  • Selects and checks case carts and preference cards for correct instrument pan(s), packs, sterile supplies, and additional items needed for the case to facilitate timely procedure start times, efficient and timely procedure progress, and complete case set ups.
  • Anticipates the need for special equipment and supplies before the procedure and requests it from the circulating nurse.
  • Checks that instruments and equipment are in safe working order.
  • Displays knowledge of the care and handling of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains a safe patient care environment within the OR suite.
  • Maintains the integrity of all sterile goods by close observation of sterile conscience, monitoring of packaging and handling.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during the procedure, while preparing for additional instrumentation, equipment, and supply needs throughout the procedure.
  • Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
  • Handles medications, haemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions as dispensed to the sterile field by a Registered Nurse for surgeon use.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of The Surgery Centre’s current policies and procedures.
  • Performs initial and closing counts on instruments, sharps, and sponges. Per The Surgery Centre’s policy and procedure, perform additional counts as needed.
  • Prepares and hands off specimens carefully to the circulating nurse, without compromising staff safety or labelling accuracy.
  • Identifies, selects, and performs correct decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization method for equipment and instrumentation for various surgical procedures. At the end of cases, cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assists with stripping, cleaning, and setting up the OR suite for own/other’s cases with efficiency and speed.
  • Assists with OR flow as required.
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment and instrumentation to facilitate durability and availability for future procedures.
  • Contributes to meeting the fluctuating staffing needs of the department as evidenced by flexibility in own assignment and work schedule.
  • Demonstrates initiative and collaborates professionally with caregivers in/out of the OR suite.
  • Promotes teamwork by assisting with the precepting of new caregivers.
  • Identifies areas of conflict, intervenes effectively, or seeks assistance in conflict resolution.

Qualifications

  • Education Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technician program or equivalent from an accredited school is required.
  • Certification (CST) required within 1 year of program completion.
  • Mass experience before July 2013.

Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience as a surgical technician is required.
  • Experience in Ambulatory Surgery or Outpatient Surgery preferred.

Outpatient Clinician - Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, MI

Job: Outpatient Clinician

Full Time

Locations;

  • Grand Rapids, MI (Kent County)
  • Muskegon, MI
  • Holland, MI

HOURS OF WORK: Monday-Friday, variable hours between 8am-7pm

The Outpatient Clinician provides therapy and casework (where applicable) to clients they are assigned within a wide range of presenting concerns and diagnostic criteria within the office setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct assigned intake assessments for counseling, completing all required paperwork.
  • Provide individual, family and/or multi-systems therapy for assigned clients.
  • Maintain appropriate and timely progress notes and files on each client.
  • Participate in biweekly individual supervision with the Outpatient Clinical Supervisor.
  • Participate in bimonthly group team meetings presenting on cases and clinical topics as required. Participation includes the sharing of ideas, feedback, and department planning. Seek and solicit feedback as needed.
  • Continually assess client’s needs and make appropriate referrals if additional services or a more intensive level of care is needed.
  • Develop Treatment Plans, Quarterly Reviews, Discharge Summaries, Clinical Progress Notes, and other documents as required by contract.
  • Coordinate the transfer/discharge process for the client and family, informing Outreach Clinical Supervisor, and necessary support staff of projected transfer/discharge goals.
  • Monitor the quality of overall treatment services to clients on their caseload; and evaluate the adequacy of these services to meet treatment objectives. Communicate effectively with Wedgwood’s Psychiatric services regarding clinical as well as case management/financial issues as needs arise.
  • Respect others and understand their needs and feelings, regardless of race, social, ethnic, economic, and religious background; have an attitude and aptitude for providing nurturance, being patient, and accepting others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field, from an accredited institution.
  • Experience providing individual, family and group counseling, preferred.
  • Required to provide proof of limited or full license in one of the following areas: Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Subscription to the Statement of Faith of Wedgwood Christian Services and agreement with the goal, purpose and objectives of the agency.
