Summary
The Registered Nurse for Recovery is responsible for providing professional, research-based nursing care during the pre- and post-operative process for patients undergoing surgical and other invasive procedures. • Takes nursing history about the reason for hospitalization, allergies, physical limitations/special considerations influencing positioning and care during surgery.
• Communicate with appropriate O.R. nurses and anesthesiologists regarding information gathered from patient interviews.
• Assesses patient’s condition:  vital signs, patency of the airway, level of consciousness, condition of the wound, dressing, patency of IV and condition of site, patency of drains and tubes, level of block in regional anesthesia.
• Takes vital signs every 15 minutes or more often as indicated by patients’ condition.  Medicates for pain as indicated, as ordered by an anesthesiologist or surgeon.
• Checks surgeon’s postoperative orders and implements those requiring immediate action.
• Communicate with the family regarding the patient’s status.
• Notifies nursing unit personnel prior to transfer from PACU.

Position: Infusion Nurse

This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices.
